'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the nail-biting dying seconds of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game ended with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from outside the box, and his teammate quickly hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This sealed an incredible recovery given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 during the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right defensive wing after they changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way Orient played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they are adept at manage and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then without warning they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It requires a tough attitude and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division the Manchester club, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has shown that growth for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including home and away fixtures against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his dad, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "It was fairly simple, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I thought I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to socialize with the teammates but I'm planning to be the following person out of the minibus and on the road. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on London's Central line after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
