19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to get a championship is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet saved four early break points in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
