Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent honors show nears, one notices a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would board games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
